Kindle Users for OverDrive eBooks

*  If you try to send an eBook to a Kindle device and you do not have an active Wi-Fi connection, you may instead choose to load your library book via USB. Both Mac and Windows users can manage Kindle content through a USB connection.

* Due to publisher restrictions, some titles may not be wirelessly delivered to your device and instead require USB transfer from your computer to your device. These restricted titles also may not be accessed on Kindle reading applications.  Users can transfer Kindle content, personal documents, and mp3 and audible files onto their Kindle devices through the USB cable.

*  If you are having trouble viewing the eBook online catalog (http://pbjclibrary.lib.overdrive.com) or can't see the 'Add to Cart' link, please hold the 'Ctrl' button on your keyboard and decrease the webpage size by pressing the minus (-) button twice (This only applies to web browsers such as Mozilla Firefox, Google Crhome, Safari, but NOT Internet Explorer). That should enable you to see the entire webpage.

Downloading content from your Kindle Library to your computer

1)  Go to the library's eBook site. Go to the book(s) that are to be checked out and click on the 'Confirm Check Out' button.

2)  When clicked, you will be able to download your Kindle eBook. Click on the 'Get for Kindle' button as shown below.

3)  Once that is done, go to www.amazon.com/manageyourkindle to locate the item you want to download from your Kindle library (you may need to sign in if you aren't already).  This will bring you to all the eBooks in your Kindle Library. Content purchased from the Kindle Store can be downloaded to your Kindle Keyboard, or Kindle compatible device, as long as you've registered the device to the Amazon account that purchased the Kindle content.

4)  Click on the "Actions" button beside the title and select "Download & transfer via USB."

5)  Select the Kindle device you will transfer the file to and click the "Download" button.

If you haven't yet purchased the item, you can choose "Transfer via Computer" when purchasing it from the Kindle Store, then click "Buy now with 1-Click."

If you have more than one Kindle device registered to the account, you will see a pop-up window asking you to choose a device. If you do not select the correct Kindle device, you will be unable to open the content on that device.

6)   You may be prompted to open or save the file; choose "Save" and select a location that is easy to find again, such as the desktop.

7)  Once the file has been saved, connect your Kindle Keyboard to your computer using a USB cable.

Connecting your Kindle Keyboard to your computer

1)  Plug the larger end of a USB cable into an available USB port or a powered USB hub connected to your computer.

2)  Connect the other end of the USB cable to the micro-USB port on the bottom of your Kindle device.

Transferring content to your Kindle Keyboard

1)  Once you've connected your Kindle to a computer using a USB cable, your Kindle will appear in the same location as external USB drives usually appear. For Windows users, this is typically in the "Computer" or "My Computer" menu. For Mac users, the drive will appear on the desktop (note: when plugged in for the first time, a Windows Update may be required to install all the necessary components for Kindle).

2)  Open the Kindle drive. You will see several folders inside, one of which will be named "documents." This is the folder you will move the downloaded file into.

3)  Locate the downloaded file(s) and copy it into the documents folder. You can generally copy files by clicking and dragging the file to the folder.

Make sure audio/wma/mp3 files go into the folder labeled 'music'. See below.
4)  Safely eject your Kindle device from your computer by right clicking the Kindle device and selecting 'Eject'. Unplug the USB cable.

Your content will appear on the Home screen.

Remember, your Kindle device will only recognize the files you've transferred if:
